Adding a little reference in case it helps somebody in the future, this is what I have learned so far about serial numbers and certificates:

Pre-Doremi Dolby:

Has two formats: H####### for CAT 745 or 51#### 52#### 61#### 62#### for CAT 862. If you get a serial starting with D####### 50#### or 60#### the room wrongly sent you the media server serial not the media block's. This is common in Dolby that makes it easier to find the media server's serial than the media block's.

Certs can be directly downloaded from: http://www.dolbycustomer.com/cinema/Certificates

Doremi pre and post Dolby:
They are 6 decimal digits, normally starting with 2 or 3: 2##### or 3##### sometimes a MB will have an adendum of two digits at the end with a dash, for example: 2#####-01 if you get a serial with a D at the end, like this 2#####D do not use/put the D on the download. the IMB-2000 which seems to probably have been developed by Doremi but is now sold by Dolby still follows this numbering format.

GDC:
Their certificates start with A and then 5 decimal digits: A#####

You request them via email at cert@gdc-tech.com

Christie:
They're 12 hexadecimal characters (0-9 and A-f): xxxxxxxxxxxx

You need to contact Christie support to gain access to their ftp.

Qube:
I've not had experience with them, but more knowledgeable people here in this thread has already given the access info for them. There's an open ftp for accessing them.

Barco:
They use a 10 digit decimal serial: ########## seemingly their media blcoks are made by GDC but Barco manages the certificates. Each certificate can be found online at a specific url. This url is printed in a QR barcode sticker on the projector, ask the room to send you a photo by whatsapp and send the picture to a QR Barcode reader app to get the url. It's unique per projector not a central repository afaik.

Sony:
I've found out that the serial format for the XCT-M10 is 7 decimal digits #######

I'm still trying to find out what the right address to contact for requesting certificates is. Sorry.

Nec:

Nec's media blocks are made by Doremi/Dolby. They follow the 6 digit decimal notation of Doremi, and their certificates can be equally downloaded at the Dolby page.
