Author Topic: Hearing Impaired tracks Chris Daigle Film Handler Posts: 24 From: Gardner, MA USA Registered: Dec 2012 posted 01-02-2018 02:51 PM                     So we're currently playing "All the Money in the World", which as part of the CPL includes "...CCAP_OV_51_HI-VI_2K_SPE...." but it doesn't give us any Narrative, HI or Caption output through our USL UPC-28C. I thought it might be a problem with the setup of the USL system as we just finished installing it, but when we play another feature in that auditorium, everything works fine. For those running CC systems, is it common to have CPL's indicate that there are captions and narrative but they don't work? We're running this through a GDC server and Dolby CP650/DAX combo.  |  IP: Logged Harold Hallikainen Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 906 From: Denver, CO, USA Registered: Aug 2009 posted 01-02-2018 03:03 PM                        Does other show content (like trailers) have HI? The UPC-28C brings up the carriers on presence of audio and keeps the carriers up for about 30 minutes after the last sense. It's possible that the audio level is not high enough for the UPC-28C to sense it. But, if the trailers work, the feature should work. There are LEDs on the bottom of the UPC-28C that show which carriers are up. See http://ftp.uslinc.com/ftp/Products/IRC-28/Documents/Technical/IRC_Indicators.jpg . If carriers are up and you don't hear any audio on this feature, and you did on the trailers or and other features, it MAY be due to audio routing in the server. Studios are switching from Interop to SMPTE packages, and a common issue is misrouting of audio. The CPL title said CCAP but there was no captioning from it. The naming convention said CCAP, but none were listed in the CPL? Fun! In general, if anyone has issues with the USL IRC/UPC-28C, let me know. Harold  |  IP: Logged Carsten Kurz Film God Posts: 4340 From: Cologne, NRW, Germany Registered: Aug 2009 posted 01-02-2018 07:37 PM                     At least for Interop DCPs (as opposed to SMPTE DCPs), it would be easy to look at the DCP directory and find the caption data in folders, and they should be referenced in readable form in the CPL XML file. Maybe not all cinemas have means to access their DCPs from an ordinary computer, but it's no big deal to enable yourself to access these files. - Carsten  |  IP: Logged Chris Daigle Film Handler Posts: 24 From: Gardner, MA USA Registered: Dec 2012 posted 01-03-2018 08:29 AM                     On the GDC we found that changing the Audio Mapping Interop setting for "8 channels" from 5.1 plus HI/VI-N to "DEFAULT" fixed the problem. Once we did that, we were getting signal output to the UPC-28C that we weren't getting before we changed it.  |  IP: Logged Steve Guttag We forgot the crackers Gromit!!! We have gon through and rewired quite a few systems to let the servers play a straight up mapping and have the wires done to get 7.1 to work and let HI/VI play on 7/8.  |  IP: Logged
