DOLBY CP650 SOFTWARE CORRUPT HOW TO FKASH
Have you tried updating it using a serial cable and the PC software? If that doesn't work, then it's nothing you can easily fix yourself.

I'm not aware of the CP-650 having a JTAG port, so reprogramming the flash or replacing defective flash is something that's usually left to Dolby. Since the device is essentially end-of-life, in such case you're probably better off buying a refurbished unit.

As mentioned before, I have some CP650 stock as I bought up the remaining finished 650 goods. I do have Cat. No. 797 flash memory. Not very expensive either but there is shipping. Some replace the entire 772 or 774 that holds the memory. That's substantially more of course. Brand new power supplies and most other cards as long as they last.

When talking about CP650, a some month ago i had two on service.....as replacement was sent while this was on repair i did redraw schematic of optical input, thing which was interested me from time CP650 went on market.....and it is 99% as it is on sony DFP-D3000 as well sony DCP1000 which was way before CP650......only difference is some resistor values, which are not even critical..... I was asking myself, too strange to be coincidance, or some developing guys were same? [Big Grin]

If the problem is really corrupt memory, new flash memory will fix it.

Your messages are a bit hard to decode, but if you already know it's the Cat. No. 797, then try to get a replacement. They're available on e.g. Ebay.

Yeah, I guess buying India is a bit out of our league nowadays. [Wink]

I currently only see this item available.

You can always try to contact the seller directly and ask them if he wants to ship it to India anyway. I've seen many eBay sellers making exceptions.

Alternatively, you can use services like this one. I've used those in the past for a shipment to India from a U.S. supplier for some telecom and IT equipment. It's not cheap (but a whole lot cheaper than e.g. UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.), it took a while to get through customs, but eventually it worked.

Hello all,

Looking for any alternate for CP650. Does any similar solution for Digital decoding from 35mm projector exist?

Regards

Datasat AP20/25. That does only analog/SR decoding internally, though. You can, however, add a DA20 to it for SRD.

The only alternatives, unfortunately, for 35mm SR-D are from Dolby and are older than the CP650.

There are plenty of spare parts available though, for the CP650, so it's still a rather safe bet. If you need 35mm Dolby Digital, I'd rather use the CP650 than a DA20 hooked up to an audio processor.

Honestly, I'd take it either way (DA20/Analog CP like the CP65 or CSP1200) ro the CP650. The CP650 is in a single package so it takes up less space. But for long term...if something digital breaks in the CP650...you are sort of hosed unless you have a spare board of what has failed. With separates, keeping a CP65 or like processor going is going to be a lot easier. There are crap tons of DA20s out there too and there are very few boards in them (and are shared by CP500s).

Note, BACP still has NEW CP650s, last I checked so if Sam is looking in here, perhaps he can advise on getting one to your country.
