If you look at your own pictures, you can see a small black device at the back of the drive, mounted on a small metal tab protruding from the carrier back. It looks like a fragile electric two pin connector at first, but it is the light entry point for two LEDs mounted at the back of the ICMP drive slot. Two thin light-guides/light-pipes are leading from there between carrier and drive bottom to the front light exits on the carrier lock. These light exits at the front look like LEDs, but they are just exits. No problem to just ignore that for a temporary solution - if you look into the slot even with the drive inserted, you can peek these LED lights if necessary. So, that's a non-issue.
However, on the other side of the SATA/power connector on the back of the drive bay, there seems to be a 'drive inserted' indicator switch. It appears to be an OMROM device, but I don't know wether it's mechanical, optical, or magnetically/proximity activated. It's still easy to cater for the activation with a D.I.Y carrier, even if you don't know how it works, since the corresponding activation tab can easily be identified on the drive carrier. However, that get's complicated if you don't have an original carrier to start with...
It's fun finding out about such things, but I won't start a business making counterfeit carriers, no market...
