I believe the issues you speak of related to DLP are due to the size of the mirrors being reduced (to make the chip not be 4x the area of the 2k chip) but the space between pixels not being able to be scaled down the same way. This leads to a higher percentage of dead space on the chip and therefore makes it less light efficient. Now you have to hit it with brighter light for the same screen size which hurts contrast for sure due to light engine design.
