I've been using TV for a few years and, aside from the cost (which I also consider way over the top), I've had few problems with it.
TV will not log into a computer that is a full version (or greater) higher than the one you're logging "from", but I've had no issues logging into anything lower, including those that are "free, personal use" installations
The subscription versions are said to have access to additional servers, located in additional countries (including the US). Older versions are said to be stuck with the original servers in Germany. Perhaps that has something to do with speed & connection issues, but I'm guessing about that.
Beyond that, I don't have any major complaints about Team Viewer. Having started out with the various (free) iterations of VNC, the cost seems a bit on the outrageous side, but I have that folded into my overhead, from which I set my service rates, so I really don't lose sleep over it.
