Mark Gulbrandsen Resident Trollmaster Posts: 16657 From: Music City Registered: Jun 99 posted 09-14-2019 07:36 PM                     Steve, This equipment isn't built for Henry and Edna's local Cinema. Its built with the chains in mind, and all the chains I know of leave everything on 24/7. So the shutdown of a IMB type server is pretty infrequent and thus irrelevant. It is usually left for the booth manager or tech to do when it needs to be done. Yes, some info is typically being written back on all GDC models. Its just logs, but logs are also a DCI requirement. GDC can tell by the lack of some of those logs if shutdown has been done incorrectly. I've honestly never found any of the IMB style servers to be inconvenient. They automatically boot up late enough intot he projector boot sequence that everything is talking by the time the server is up. And shutdown takes but a few extra seconds to kill the IMB and then the projector. I suppose projector manufacturers could also build that in so shutdown happens automatically and in the correct sequence. But wjat incnetive do they have to do it?? Anyone that doesn't is a fool as they are pumping dirt 24/7 too and wearing out electromechanical parts while degrading their optical path. NEC does tell the Dolby IMS to go into a standby mode when the projector also goes into a standby mode...which is a very nice feature the other two should adopt. Carsten, I'm well aware of what it takes to get the server to play when HDMI is selected, I just find the restriction stupid and should have been worked around by Barco. Mind you the other servers have their other quirks on selecting alternative content inputs but generally they don't stop a DCP from being selected but rather if a scheduled show occurs, that will eject the alternative content (which may be a slide show or something) and runs the DCP without having a black pattern to hold the cue to switch to a DCP input.  |  IP: Logged
