SAS pinout Not sure why there are so many grounds or multiple same-voltage power pins, but that's how the connector was designed. A SAS bus can carry a higher load of devices without external power than SATA. Also, the voltage ranges on a SAS bus are higher than on SATA, allowing for longer cables, but that has nothing to do with the amount of pins. I guess some of the pins can also be used for data in a newer protocol revisions. A bit like how Ethernet evolved over standard 8-wire CatX cabling.  |  IP: Logged
