This movie is aimed at specific types of people. There are going to be plenty of projectionists who screen this movie because it is their job and not care for it at all. It's not the type of movie for the mainstream moviewatcher, thus many negative reviews about it.

As for the fellow above who said that there was not one song in the movie that he cared about, that is because most of them are obscure songs and only really appeal to a small genre of people who enjoy that type of music. Those are the people the movie is for (I shouldn't leave out people who want to see John Cusak do superb performances, this one included). If they were songs that everybody loved and knew, the character Cusak plays would not be realistic, being that he owns an small, independant record (not CD) store lost in his own topsy-turvy world. Instead, he would be a 'happily' married guy, with his 2.5 kids and 2 door garage in the suburbs managing a mega music store.

I really liked this movie because of the excellent cast, and the attitudes and lifestyles of the characters. Jack Black is hilarious and I really enjoyed the trip into understanding Cusaks loathing of his ex's and how his lifestyle as an 'alternative' music listener influences this and his life.

I realize that this is not everyones cup of tea, but I thought it was original and entertaining.

I've only seen "High Fidelity" once, during its theatrical run, but it left a favorable impression on me. Memorable. And it rekindled my interest in vinyl records...
