Actually, the ending WAS unpredictable. I saw a joke being made with the clotheless Betazoid Wedddingat the end. Never happened.

BTW, Brent piner was quoted in the L.A. Times saying that another Next Generation film will happend if this one is succesful at the box office. Thats why things were left open-ended.

*Spoilers Ahead*

Been a while since there's been a good ST film (First Contact). This film was just what I needed to get me back in the spirit for the (hopefully) good winter epics after all the recent tripe. The soundtrack was phenomenal, as were the digital effects, and plently of good laughs and action sequences throughout. I did not see the ending coming, with Data "dying", as good guys are not supposed to die, plus I grew up with the TNG cast. Overall a great film.

I went to see it again last night [Embarrassed] , same location (wanted to see it again in the best theater in this area; the print will be moved when Two Towers comes out later this week). I enjoyed it even more the 2nd time. There are some small things I could criticize, as there always are in ST movies, but overall a 2nd view confirms that I like this a whole lot more than any other Next Gen film.

I sat through the credits this time, and there were at least 2 lab splices on that last, short reel, in addition to the other 4 I counted elsewhere. On my way out I asked the mgr. about the sound format, was told it was DTS. The sound was rock-solid and impressive from start to end, no noticeable discontinuties at all, despite all the splices. [Cool]

Did anyone notice the tribute to "Enterprise"? There's a scene on the bridge where the computer display shows the names & locations of several Federation ships. One of them was USS Archer.

The original cut delivered to Paramount by Stuart Baird was in fact about 2:45. Paramount fearful that no one would sit through a three hour star trek movie, ordered it cut to 2 hours.

Stuard Baird and John Logan (screenplay) both claim that the whole of the movie was not affected by the cuts.

I do hope that the original cut will be available on DVD.

I noticed that during the dune buggy scene, Picard does a very good job at driving basically a 20th century machine. While I am sure that since they do not use those type of automobiles commonly in the 24th century and ships and shuttlecraft are the norm and appear to be flown much differently, he does a very good job. I takes people a long time with drivers training to operate a vehicle properly, I guess we see that Patrick Stewart apparently is a good driver while his character should not be. But again this is Star Trek and half of the stuff should be taken as suspension of disbelief. [Wink]

I can't remember a damn thing about the last couple of NextGen movies -- they were completely forgettable.
I can understand Insurrection (the last one), but how can you say that about First Contact (the one before Insurrection)!??

Anywho, after seeing it three times, I have decided that this is one helluva kick-ass movie, with a terrific soundtrack. Now here are my nit-picky questions:

Where in the world did the B4 (or is that "Before"??) android come from? It was established that Shinzon found it, modified it, and planted it for the Enterprise to find, but I wanna know where he originally came from! I hate when things just pop up like that with no explanation!!

How the heck did Data transport to the Reman ship instead of the B4? After watching this movie 3 times, I still cannot find an explanation for that. Grrrr!

Am I the only one who thinks Shinzon looks nothing like Picard? The latest Communicator has an add with their two faces side by side, and they look nothing like each other! Not even the eyes. What is up with that?

I admit I remember First Contact, but I guess I was thinking it was more than 2 movies back or something.

I will be buying this on DVD, partly because I just like the movie and partly for that kick-ass soundtrack. VERY nicely done, whoever did it.

Didn't they kind of explain that it was an early prototype by Dr. Soong (sp?). I just asssumed it was an earlier version of Data that had been "discarded".

I was wondering that too. Maybe something got cut out during editing.

I thought the same thing too, but remember Shinzon did explain that when he was a slave in the mines he had been beaten up on a lot. [Wink]

All in all I really like this film and it's a shame it's dying so quickly in the current crowded market.

YOUR STAR TREK NEMESIS QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED..

*** WARNING*** SPOILERS AHEAD...

QUESTIONS: How does Data Transport to the reman ship instead of B4??

Data brings to the attention of his superiors that he has discovered the origin of the unauthorized access to the computer, and that he believes that they can gain "a tactical advantage"... Now also remember that they would have also discovered the transponder that was placed inside of B4 by shinzon, and then removed it and placed it inside Data... The secondary data port was taken from the neck of B4 and placed on Data.. Hence the Tactical Advantage... I doubt the lead in was cut, as it was made to look as if it were a total surprise... and of course it is...

QUESTION: How could the Picard character possibly know how to drive a dune buggy, and why the hell not just use a flying mode of transport? Easy...

In the scene directly before the dune buggy, Picard and Geordi refer to Picard aching to take the Argo out for a spin... this also alludes to the fact that this thing had to be tested somewhere else, and more than likely, as with all of the ST machines, you have to be at least trained and rated before you are allowed to drive it, so it is highly likely that he had some simulation training already, and the fact that he nearly creamed it coming out of the stable... well it all makes sense...

QUESTION: Was the dune buggy scene really needed?

It is obvious why the dune buggy was needed. they were needing to get out of the vehicle six different times to make eye to ground searches for the causes of the energy searches. Remember that while they had general ideas of the locations, they could not be specific because of the planets atmosphere and mineral base that prevented a honing or locking in. This prevented "flying around in shuttles to pick up the pieces". Imagine having to get in and out six different times of a shuttlecraft, too much time consumed powering up for a quick launch. In search and rescue missions, we don't just fly around in planes now do we?

QUESTION: Why was Data wearing safety glasses during the desert scene?

Remember that Data strives to be human, and EMULATES human behavior. He only wore them to feel more a part of the experience.

QUESTION: Was the Dune Buggy scene to draw in the XXX crowd? No. It was just some fun. We would have seen more previews that were nothing but the dune buggy sequence, and that didn't happen. As far as not needed, sure, why not? we could have just had that damned android floating around in space, or a shuttle could have come by with it, something easy and simple, so we don't have to have a dune buggy scene. What is the problem with a dune buggy scene? Space travellers DO have to get out of the ship once in a while don't they?

QUESTION: Why is picard bald in his academy picture, when Picard was not bald in the academy, as in the series when his artificial heart was explained, but the picture of his academy days had him bald..

right you are!!! But also wrong too. The picture was taken AFTER his heart was installed, and he had decided to don the crome dome look. Just some creative interpretations on the writers part...

QUESTION: What was with Picards attachment to this clone?

Well it wasn't wussiness. Remember that his entire family line is now dead. I am sure that there were bits cut that ellude more to this about how this is really the only family he has.

QUESTION: WHy was the death of Data copied from the death of spock.

NOT SO FAST....
Data did not see his death coming and therefore download his memories into B4. The download was done to see if B4 could be improved and brought up to speed, as it were. Also, this was not a cultural thing, as it is with vulcans. Also, Data is dead, and his body cannot be retrieved and his memories reinsterted to his body. DATA IS IN FACT VERY VERY DEAD. Spock was dead, but the genesis planet revived his cellular structure, allowing his Katra to be put back in to his body. DATA IS DEAD, and B4 is not going to be a carbon copy, but rather is merely a child with some of the memories of Data. Data did not die with his friends watching him rot to pieces in front of thier eyes, he died alone. Also remember that Data downloaded his Daughters memories into his matrix, but he did not become his daughter. Just because Spock died doesn't mean that other charachters therefore can never die. Charachters Die all the time. Hey even Kirk Died.

I really enjoyed this film. The best next generation film to date. I can't wait for the real cut of the film on DVD.

Dave

Dave, Kirk did not just die, Picard killed Kirk because he wasn't man enough to do the dirty work. At least in the Novels that took place after that Kirk gets to come back thanks to Borg technologie and do a little bit of Picard bashing in the process. [Smile]

Here is another question... Why was Will Wheaton in this movie? ... and why was he wearing a star fleet uniform??? Didn't he (Wesley) drop out before he graduated Star Fleet academy and go off with "The Traveler"?

Hey Mike, Wesley Crusher was a main character in the early years and had re-occuring roles. So I guess the Star Trek gods wanted him in the movie. I don't think he even had lines. Here is a link for Wesley Crusher bio Star Trek Bios

Also here is a web site that Wil Weaton does : Wil Wheaton
