His comment: If I want to see it I should be quick about it, as he predicts a two-week first run straight to the dollar houses then on to the video ghetto. I never picked one up nor cared too...I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I went in to this film...I've never done drugs in my life but this film makes you feel like your on them...it goes from one place to the next with out ever having a reason. Its all over the galaxy..ha ha Although I thought it had some great special effects, the planet factory was just cool....it never really went anywhere but to the next sight gag. Sam Rockwell was a hoot, his very loosely based Elvis was great...between him and Marvin they were the best characters. out of That damn song in the beginning is freaking catchy though...found my self singing it as I walked out of the auditorium. Oh yeah me and my friend and his wife and my girlfriend probably said "WHAT THE FUCK!!" A thousand times during this movie. Thought the movie was just goofy. Some funny lines, visually weird. Be sure to bring in a pair of 3d glasses. Absolutely NO one asked for any, or brought in a pair of the old SpyKids3d glasses. Luckily, we have a ton in storage, for those true HitchHiker fans. Overall, the movie was entertaining, and not a total waste of time. Lobby area smelled of weed from those who entered for the late show on Friday. It wasn't hysterical, but I thought it was very clever. I think the American audiences should be warned that it's more of a British comedy, however, since it seems that 98% of Americans just don't get it. If there was any flaw, it's that most of the creatures had British attributes, but on the other hand, those creatures had more character and more detail than anything Lucas has ever done. I thought the satire on religion was the funniest thing in the movie aside from the "wool" sequence. I don't know who told the British that they could be funny. They rarely succeed. Doctor Who is the funniest thing they have done, and that's only because the most well known Doctor Who looked like a homeless person, and it is fun to laugh at homeless people. They're British, which means second-rate. We Americans are the best. We have much more finely crafted humor. We tend to laugh at things that are funny, instead of just "subtly amusing" (which describes this entire movie). I say we nuke all Brits. They need to lose their damned obsession with tea. Seriously, what the fuck is up with that? Can't go a day without dropping everything for a spot o' tea? Fucking bastards. No wonder we ran away and fought like hell to get away from you freaks. It was because you thought you were funny, but you really weren't. Please die. Thank you. The movie had its moments here and there. It was a well crafted bit of british humor. I liked Marvin's new look. I hope they make a sequel. This film illustrates the difference between American and English humour. American humour is largely based on the punch line i.e. a set of innocuous comments lead on to a funny one-liner at the end. The humour seems to me to largely rooted in the situation a person finds oneself in and how the person perceives and reacts to it. The humour is often obvious, simple to comprehend and in some case can be predicted. English humour however seems generally more absurdist where the writers take things like word construction, situations, ideas and take them to absurd levels or combine elements in ridiculous or absurd ways.
