Could have been better in terms of music and even the cinematography seemed underlit in the day scenes. Still I do like the creative choices in getting away from the overblown batman music of the past movies, especially the self parody of the last two, and cinematography wise, going with a nice mix of day and night scenes. This felt like a real movie instead of a boring self conscious comic book adaptation. I always thought Freeman would make a good Alfred despite his race. And it's nice to see him as a sort of corporate world Alfred in this movie. Hated the slap scene. Prissy bitch. Liked the fact that so many fun actors like Hauer and Oldman eschewed chewing up the scenery. Loved the gritty nature of the gadgets and the props. I liked the Burton movies, but if Burton kept making movies, he was in danger of boring us with the gothic stuff. And besides, Batman 1, was narratively not that gripping. Liked the 2.35:1 aspect ratio of this batman. I love the fact that the villains played it straight and not campy. Nicholson did a good job being Nicholson and was entertaining. But as the joker, he wasnt the perfect choice for me. I thought DeVito and Pfeiffer were good. Carrey was not bad, but he was doing Carrey, not the Riddler, and let's not say a word about the other wretched Shumaker villains. It was time for a change in tone. Cillian Murphy looks damn creepy even without a bag on his face. LIam Neeson was much better in this role compared to his bland presence in Ep1. All in all, a must see. One pet peeve: I HATE it when the girl finds about Batman's identity.They did it in Batman. This is the best of the franchise so far. Very dark. Looked and sounded excellent, though there were a few digital dropouts near the end of reel 2. No other presentation complaints. The matinee price has increased from $4.75 to $5.00 since the last time I was there, and business was so slow the cashier was also tearing the tickets. Attendance maybe 75 if I'm being optimistic. Michael Keaton and Christian Bale: Val Kilmer and George Clooney: All in all this is the best Batman yet and I can't wait to see the next installment. The only problem was the bad reel 3, about 12 places where the film was mis-colored and after each one of course it dropped out of digital. To tell you the truth I cant really recall what was going on at the time because that sound was getting on my fucking nerves! I told a manager about it and said I'd rather watch it in stereo so I couldn't hear it drop, but he looked at me like I was crazy. If the "mis-colored" sections were cyan-blue in color, I suspect safelight fogging, which could also affect the sound. Might also be a processing problem. Movie was great as everyone has already stated. Presentation was just about flawless. The screen was evenly lit, even in the corners, and the sound was definitely IMAX. It was a 10:10pm show and it was packed. I was a little surprised for a Sunday night. Although not the biggest IMAX at 400 capacity, certainly more people than I expected. My only complaint.....during most of the fighting scenes the camera angel changed so quickly and the action was so fast I could hardly tell what was going on like who was beating the hell out of who, maybe because of the large picture and my little brain trying to process it all. Did anyone else fell the same, weather on IMAX or in a regular house?  |  IP: Logged
