Author Topic: Serenity(2005) Dave Williams Wet nipple scene Posts: 1836 From: Salt Lake City, UT, USA Registered: Jan 2000 posted 10-07-2005 04:23 AM                        I have been waiting a bit to post my review. I am what you call a "browncoat" fan. I have seen each episode from the DVD set no less than seven times each, and in order. I truly felt a connection as if these people were my family. Yes I am a geek, and no I do not need mental pills. Just as some get hooked on Halo, scrapbooking, or meth, I got hooked on Firefly. I went to the film excited as all hell. I was disapointed when the theme music didn't play in the beginning, but it soon passed as the movie really began. During the first half I was confused about where this little film was going, however in the last half, I was pleasantly pleased. The one real problem I had was personal. And it was my favorite part of the entire film. POSSIBLE SPOILERS.................... Yes a couple of characters that I was particularly fond of were killed off, but the real tear jerker for me was the speech that the captain gave as the ship sailed off into the sky. It was about what the true definition of love really is. It got to me. It is how I feel about my daughter, and my wife. It is how I feel about living in general. So yeah, it got to me. It hit me particularly hard to have a main character get offed. It helps make the show not so sterile, yet makes it hard to go see it again. I had to wait to post my review, I had to know that the film was received at least half the way I saw it, otherwise I would feel like a damn fool. It's just a movie, but for me it really was an experience. But you really have to know the series deeply to have it even close the same way. I will never make fun of a star trek geek again. No wait, I can't stop doing that, it's too damn fun. Near-flawless presentation -- Looked and sounded great from first frame to last, tack-sharp focus, bright steady image, seat-rattling sound. My only complaint: Too many trailers. Never saw the Firefly TV show, barely a blip on my radar until this movie came out. Had some trouble understanding everything but it mostly works and I liked the spark and passion that clearly went into making this. I need to check out Firefly now. 4 out of 5 stars from me, and a toast to the local Cinemarkers for their excellent presentation.  |  IP: Logged Steve Scott Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1300 From: Minneapolis, MN Registered: Sep 2000 posted 10-25-2005 02:31 AM                     If it hadn't subsisted for half the movie on one-lines and kitsch, Serenity might have been truly paying homage to western, sci fi and samurai flms alike. Nontheless, it's nice to see a confident piece of filmmaking, especially when most of your cast would consider these characters to be their breakout roles. There's a light or intrigue about each scene that keeps the story important, and a truly authentic feel to the production, especially when their spacecraft looks handpicked out of radio shack or an old garage (of the future!!!) Chicks with swords... spirit of Uma lives through one year! Crown's Block E 15 #12, SRD. It was nice to see Crown cut down on their preshow content, a great looking print, rock steady Kinoton projectors... I covet. What I don't covet is those screen channels, lackluster in their small auditoriums, hardly any bass at all.  |  IP: Logged Kurt Zupin Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 989 From: Maricopa, Arizona Registered: Oct 2004 posted 10-27-2005 10:57 PM                     First I have to say I have never seen the tv show, nor am I a sci fi fan aside from the old star wars and a few other shows. I LOVED THIS MOVIE, the comedy was just right and made me laugh pretty good. It never took its self serious enough to ruin the film. 4.5 out of 5 from me, just a good movie. Really enjoyable a definite buy on DVD. Adam Baldwin cracked me up the entire film with his one liners.  |  IP: Logged
