Ok, I really like this film. I don't know how to spell the Cash character name, but he was amazing at playing Cash. Reese Witherspoon is REALLY HOT. It was entertaining and kept my attention. I am a country music fan so I am familiar with his work and recognized all the songs. Overall 7/10, good movie...

Finally got to see this last night.

A good job by everyone concerned. I agree with some that the "downfall" section went on a bit, but it was well done. It follows the "Coal Miner's Daughter" pattern pretty closely although doesn't document the star's "rise to fame" as well as that movie did, IMHO.

Reese Witherspoon did an amazing job. I was losing hope for her after "Legally Blonde 2" but this totally shows her acting chops. Joaquin Phoenix is great, as well. I hope this movie gets some Oscar attention.

8.5 out of 10 for me.

This movie rocks!
I found Phoenix's performance to be as spot-on as anybodies and very well played.
I could've done without Reese Witherspoon though...Something about her didnt' sit well with me.
And of course Robert Patrick turns in a great performance as his father.
What a great show. If you're a fan you'll especially like it.

The only thing I'll really criticise about this one is how drug out the middle of the movie was vs. how quickly the beginning moved.
I'll also lay into the continuity a little as well, some of the shots, particularly during the shows were too far apart as far as the action goes. He'd be facing one way with his guitar to one side, cut to another shot and it's on the other. That really ruined some of it for me.

Otherwise, a fantastic show though.

This is one very good movie.

Joaquin (Leaf) Pheonix plays Johnny and it's almost eerie just how well he captures the spirit of Cash.

I had some big problems with the direction though...two glaring errors...

#1: At the audition where he sings Folsom Prison Blues for Stan Phillips...it should have been one continuous shot until he turned to the guy to do the guitar solo. That's an important shot and shouldn't have been compromised by cut-aways to Phillips for reaction shots. A single shot (as it is the film) at the end would have been much more effective.

#2: If you're going to put on title cards saying:
The album 'LIVE AT FOLSUM' went on to become one of the biggest selling albums of its time even out-selling The Beatles
You need more than 5 seconds to read it. (D'uh!) I knew it was coming and have started reading it as soon as it appears and even then just finish it as it fades off. You've given the audience a 'high' to end on...let them enjoy it. What's another 5 seconds?

Reese Witherspoon was very good...but 'Best Actress'? Hmmm

I give this one 7/10 Mostly for Joaquin's performance. It loses points for the one dimensional parents roles.
