Actually, no Joe. That's why it is "just saying."
That is, the analogue would be, "I'm only typing."
To distinguish from the case where you are typing and thinking.
Et cetera.

The verb "to say" is transitive, that is, it requires an object. "I'm just saying" (or "I'm just saying..." if you prefer), in which no direct object follows, is an elliptical expression made intelligible by what precedes it in the conversation, that is, its antecedent. If you have been pointing something out to someone who perhaps strongly desires not to hear it, that individual may have a bad reaction, or may seem to be about to have a bad reaction.

For example:

Dave: "Frank, you're unfairly condemning all Regal booths based on the ineptitude of one Regal booth."

Frank: "WTF? Are you accusing me of being stupid?"

Dave: "No -- I'm just saying...."

It's an effort to deflect anger and distrust generated by something you said in good faith and with good intentions. "I'm not accusing, I'm not criticizing, I'm just giving you something to think about by what I've been saying."

PRESENTATION: 35mm (Kinoton)/Dolby Digital/THX
PRESENTATION PROBLEMS: The aroma of Ben Gay from the old lady in front of me
RATING: Three stars (out of four)

This show did a pretty good business considering it's been out awhile. The vast majority of the audience were women. There were maybe five guys. I was the only guy in here alone. Two women actually commented on this as they gave me funny looks.

There were elderly women who came in (separate parties) with identical walkers and one woman in a wheelchair with a really high tech looking motor control. All appeared healthier than the younger woman who sat behind me. She was wheezing for air as she climbed over her husband to get to her seat. Her ass was actually producing heat as it hovered over me. When she sat down, her husband said "You're huffing."

(huff huff huff) "What?" (huff huff huff)

"Huffing. Puffing."

(huff huff huff) "I am?" (huff huff huff)

It's quite a climb to the second row of the stadium tier, let me tell you.

Lovely movie. But am I the only one who didn't actually find any of the food appealing?

This movie is still doing amazingly well at my theatre. We have 11 screens and Julie/Julia has been our #2 draw for the last 3 weeks. We have a restaurant in our lobby and our servers tell me that the guests come out hungry and stay for dinner.
