Here here Russ! The customer is ALWAYS right, even when they're wrong.
I hope you're just kidding about that! [eyes]

Jack, no I am not kidding. What I meant by that statement is that even when a customer is wrong you shouldn't get into an argument with them, so in effect they are 'right.' There are notable exceptions of course. YOu don't deal with beligerant drunks with passes, you call the police. But for the average customer if you can't explain to them the situation in a reasonable tone or amount of time givve them a pass. Even if the customer is an idiot and they are asking you to do the impossible, like rewind the movie, you don't want them to leave the theatre angry. When you have a disgruntled customer you don't just lose their business, you potentialy lose the business of every person they describe their negative experience too.

Passes may be overused by some people but it is my belief they are UNDERUSED by others [thumbsdown] .

I will generally start all the final showings and just shut off the lamp if no one's there - with one exception. The exception is if it is a crappy night and we've only had 20 people through the place anyway, no other movies are running the last show because no one showed up for them (and in this case I AM holding off at least 5 - 10 minutes for someone to show up and if they do I start the movie) so if it is the last movie and nothing else is running and 2 customers show up 10 minutes late and want to see that last movie, in that one case I will lie and say the projector brokedown and I can't get parts till tomorrow. This has happened exactly twice. Generally if one movie is running I will start any movie for a customer as late as needed so long as the resulting ending time is not later than the ending time of the last movie - I have to be there anyway! We are not allowed to pay ourselves more than 30 minutes past the end time of the last movie, and a big chunk of that is the time it takes to lock up. If the night sucks that bad I think it is better to get everyone off the payroll right after the box closes than to get one $7.50 customer in (of which we get maybe $.75 - $1.00 in revenue off of) and spend $20 to staff the building, keep the lights on, heat on, etc for that one person. Generally I am very accomodating of late arriving customers because there are some for every show.

After reading some of the replies, which are really good replies, for me, I as a projectionist, make the decision. If no one shows up for the last show after 15-20 minutes, I won't run the show (I mean, what's the point?). But, if no one shows up for, let's say, a 7:10pm show, I still run it with the Xenon and Exciter on regardless. Better to run the movie on time and on schedule instead of having the show run into the next show time.
