Author Topic: Appropriate trailers Steve Scott Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1300 From: Minneapolis, MN Registered: Sep 2000 posted 11-07-2000 03:08 AM                     We had to remove all trailers from our prints of Bagger Vance because there was a problem with getting them to work with our automation, or something. Before that, the film wouldn't start up, so we had to unload close to 200 free passes for angry customers. No one has said to remove them...since JP3 is PG-13 these approved trailers can play on it. Cpt. correli's mandolin is rated R and it plays on there too. So naturally when playing for example a "12" rated movie you can only show U,PG,12 rated trailers.(This is the idea anyway, for example Shrek rated "U" was shown with a PG trailer for Dr Dolittle 2) but usually the audience doesent notice since most multiplexes now cut of the trailers rating band. Usually a movie will have trailers with the same or lower rating. But there have been rare cases of higher rated trailers such as Godzilla trailer (the rating band actually said 12 trailer for a PG feature) Also there seems to be some strange trailer placement. Recently I saw the Harry Potter teaser programmed for Bridget Jones Diary. They had gotten complaints about the trailer scarin' the tykes'. In fact, even though the trailer was approved for showing with the title feature, we did have parents comming out of the theater with their tykes' because this trailer was scarin' them. I usually try to give the studios priority placement of trailers with their own films. This one lasted one show before I pulled it off. I see no need for a movie that kids are going to come to having a trailer showing blood and sex. This one should have been red banded. The Michael Douglas film isn't exactly appropriate either, nor is Shallow Hal, which will probably end up with an R rating. As far as From Hell, I think it looks cool but agree its not entirely appropriate.
