Have any of you read through some of this and thought about writing a mission statement, not a memo, ala Jerry Maguire? At any rate, maybe its the manager in me, or maybe I'm over positive, but one important reason to be in this career is the PEOPLE WORKING FOR YOU. Complain all you want about those teenagers that you employ, but nothing is more satisfying about making them "not annoying". Its a hugely rewarding experience to me, to hire someone, then actually have the ability to inspire them to want to do a good job for me.
A little background, I started as a staff member, at 18, at a 9-screen theater for Goodrich Quality Theaters, in Portage, IN. At any rate, I've moved out, and on, still with the same company, and now, today, actually, I get to leave my brand new 9-screen near Purdue University, to go and manage the theater I started out at. But at any rate, the staff I'm leaving behind is single-handidly amazing. I enjoy and revel in the fact that I make them CARE about something. I could pay them all $1/hr less an hour (not a lot to some of us, but a lot to a 16 yr old who can make $7 at McD's), and they would still stay there. Its about giving people a cause to doing a good job. We can complain about our superious not praising us, but before you do, be certain that you aren't the same as them.
The teenagers are only annoying, if you let them be. You can actually train them to not be, believe it or not.
Nevertheless, the people I work with, and have work for me, are the reason I stay in this, and always will.
