I've never noticed a correlation between recession (or the stock market, at least at the privately owned theater companies) and the theater business. This thing really affected EVERYONE, emotionally and professionally. Movies getting pushed back, moved around. September is always bad, but this bad, never. Never, in my wildest dreams, did I ever think we'd have to cross our fingers for Mariah Carrey to bring us commission in the stand. In Bakersfield, CA, where three theatres are the norm for any wide release, Glitter didn't open AT ALL! Yet, many of the small communities in the valley Bakersfield is in that only get ONE run of a film was showing Glitter. ALL of these towns that get national runs got this one. I've never seen Bakersfield not get a film these other communities do (we are a metro area of 400,000, these other communities are well under 100,000). Omega Code II was booked at one local theatre, but was cancelled, since all three circuits here (Edwards, Pacific, and UA) have apparently cancelled (or postponed) it. The producer said that God WANTED it shown on this particular date, though.  |  IP: Logged
