I agree with Trevor, General Manager means that I am a glorified Staff Person. But any way, here is the breakdown in my chain:

VP of Operations: Which as far as I can tell is nothing more thatn a regional manager in charge of all the Area Directors and some ADs are better suited...never mind...LOL

Area Director: Is just that...he is the General Manager of the theatre Managers...confused Yet????

General Manager: The Ultimate Floor Staff who gets his ass chewed out for everything that goes wrong. We are responsible for the entire theater operation inside and out. And I mean everything except the advertising, which is actually budgeted for less than .01% per month to advertise our business...something's wrong....

Salaried Assistant Manager: I don't know what the exact detail is by the book, but if you have an excellent assistant, then I train them to be able to do anything I can...and that's how I keep being put in bigger theatres, I always have a well trained replacement.

I think that with modern cinemas being so large it has become neccessary to have someone in charge of each employee group within the complex. With so many employees in the building at one time it is probably a great help to have one person at concessions that the Manager can rely on to see that the bar is run properly. The same is likely true with floor staff.

A title is in fact a reward of sort and besides when you're a young person looking for work after leaving school "concession supervisor" looks great on a CV

Here is how we break it down. We have four theaters total and a main office.

OFFICE

General Manager = Owner
Field Manager = Owners Sidekick
Quality Control Manager = Owners Kissass
Field Technician = ME

THEATERS

Location Manager = Does what he/she is told
Asst Manager = Tells Location Manager to stick it up his/her wazoo
Projectionist = local high school football jock who destroyed my copy of everything
concessionist = chicks with big breasts
box office = that place we dont use because our labor is too high
janitor = person who smokes in theater 6 even after i said to stop it
floor staff = 14 year old who cant wipe thier own ass without a checklist explaing how and why, when and where.

Here is our breakdown from top to bottom.. At our one screen.
Co-Owner/Projectionist (25 + years)
Co-Owner/Treasurer (Mom)(13 Years)
Box Office (Dad)(5 Years)
Concession/Projectionist (Me)(6 1/2 Years)
This is the best management structure I have worked with, although unfeasable for large operations.
