My guess would be the bucket or bag size is a measure of dry volume. For example, in the USA, strawberries may be sold in a pint or quart basket. I assume a 32 oz sized bag would be equivalent to a dry quart. An equivalent situation is measuring the displacement (cylinder size) of an internal combustion engine. We talk of litres, cc (cubic centimetres) or cubic inches of displacement. So popcorn bags/buckets could also be sized in litres or cubic inches. http://www.startinbusiness.co.uk/siinfo.htm http://www.ex.ac.uk/cimt/dictunit/dictunit.htm http://www.jobo-usa.com/instructions/instructions_misc_conversion_tables.htm http://www.av.qnet.com/~rchill/conversi.htm http://diy-online.co.nz/library/articles/english_metric_equivalents.htm Imperial Measures of Capacity: 1 gill = 1.42058 decilitres 1 pint (4 gills) = 0.56823 litre 1 quart (2 pints) = 1.13646 litres 1 gallon (4 quarts) = 4.5459631 litres 1 peck (2 gallons) = 9.0917 litres 1 bushel (8 gallons) = 3.6366 dekalitres 1 quarter (8 bushels) = 2.90935 hectolitres Cubic Measure: 1 cubic inch = 16.3870 cubic centimetres 1 cubic foot (1,728 cub.
