Author Topic: Scheduling of "Gods and Generals" Matt Hale Expert Film Handler Posts: 123 From: Vancouver, Canada Registered: Dec 2002 posted 02-23-2003 03:59 PM                        There is only one theatre in Vancouver playing Gods & Generals, and unfortunately most of the movie listings for it show the running time to be 100 minutes! There were a lot of antsy people in the room last night by the time the intermission came. Also, the theatre its playing at normally only provides 3 hours of free parking...They'll give you 6 if you ask for it, but with the misprinted listings nobody (except me) knew to ask...  |  IP: Logged Charles Everett Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1470 From: New Jersey Registered: May 2001 posted 02-27-2003 03:26 PM                     Reading Cinemas in Manville does a double-up for the 2nd week: Gods & Generals at 10 AM and 8 PM, Frida at 3 PM. That means 1 hour between the matinee and Frida, 3 hours between Frida and the night show. Our chain is pulling The Film That Ted Paid For from its flagship theater after this week. Fourteen days, twenty-eight performances and yer outta here! Our chain is keeping it for another week at another one of its first-run locations - in a spacious 101 seat, Ultra*Stereo 3-channel optical surround, 12x25 auditorium. Like back in the 80's when Fox four walled the Westwood Playhouse for the engagement of "The Stunt Man". It used to be a way some films were released. IIRC, films like "Billy Jack" and some of those Sun International films like "Chariots of the Gods?" were four-walled. The distributor rents the theatre for a fee and collects all of the boxoffice. Since we're in a small town, they'd rent the theatre for one night, usually for $200. We'd do two shows. They would saturate the airwaves with commercials (we only had 2 TV stations in those days so saturation was easy.) The "host" representative of the film company would arrive with the print about an hour before showtime, and collect the money and film at the end of the night. The early show was usually a sellout, with the late show being half full or better. Used to do a lot of nature films like "The Legend of Grizzly Adams" that way....people in Montana would eat that stuff up, of course! We didn't call it a "four wall" at the time, we always called it a rentout.  |  IP: Logged
