I know they are just sitting there in the desert, waiting for me to come by so they can jump at me... I know most of the scorpions are more dangerous, but I don`t mind dangerous, I just hate those ugly, furry, eight-legged freaks. Although the movie of the same title helped me a litle bit to attenuate my arachnophobia, it was so over the top. There is nothing but golf courses and desert around but it's crazy to see so many people living in such an area that is almost completely devoted to retirees, golfers and people in re-hab. And Kyle you have your work cut out for ya at that Cinemark in Cathederal City. Mike: Yep they do...both!! For snakes, they have BIG Texas Rattlesnakes with BIG FANGS that inject venom into their prey. They are deadly poisonous California also has a relative to the Texas Rattler Most all of the US has some local rattlesnake. When I was a kid in Michigan, every spring we'd find a couple in our garage. Many moons ago, my sister who lives in Ft. Worth Texas got stung by a scorpion that was hiding in her bed. When she pulled back the covers to retire, it landed on her arm and stung her. She got very ill. She finally recovered after 2 weeks in the hospital. A friend of mine got some unknown aliment and almost died while vacationing in Washington State. They could never figure out what the bug was but thought it was a tick cuz of the bite mark.. He was in a coma for weeks. He finally recovered. About 10 years ago, my mom almost died from an unknown ailment that was finally traced to an outbreak of the Hunta Virus contained in dust particles from dried-out field mouse-shit that was stirred up by winds and carried all over many states. She breathed the contaminated air while just driving through the state of Arizona. It took her almost 3 weeks in intensive care to finally pull through. Another friend I know was bit by the deadly Water Moccasin (or Cotton-Mouth…I forgot which) snake while swimming in Louisiana. He was lucky…he was 15 at the time and was strong so he survived. ALL of those animals are extremely dangerous. Emergency Rooms have anti-venoms for most dangerous insects and snakes...at least in Cali…I assume the same is true in other states and that they have stocked the anti-venoms based on their local threats. My point to all this is NO MATTER where ya live, there is always something out to get ya! Just be cognizant and use common sense… AND, STOP your pussy-ass whining ya'll! It's part of LIFE! I can deal with snakes, but I am a pussy-ass with spiders….. GOD!!! They give me the willies, no matter how small or big they are. In Los Angeles we have BIG Black Widows (Eeeeek!!!) and, like all states, the Brown Recluse.... and of course the harmless, but intimidating-looking VERY BIG Tarantula spider. However, public-owned utilities are still cheaper than investor-owned. In Palm Springs and Indio, Southern California Edison is the service provider. However, in Coachella (not THAT far from Palm Springs) the Imperial Irrigation District is the service provider, and their rates are significantly lower. So, to maintain your quality of life without subsidizing Edison's stockholders, I'd recommend Coachella. I hope things are working out for you.  |  IP: Logged
