It seems that the Matrix:Reloaded might wind up blowing it's load too early (with the wednesday and thursdays shows) and won't break Spiderman's opening record. What I mean is that the Matrix 2 will make more money in three days (Thurs, Fri, Sat) than Spiderman did, but it may not break Spiderman's OFFICAL three day opening weekend record because Thursday's shows will not count for the Matrix weekend mumbers. I have to say that does nothing to keep kids away in a film like this. Normally an action movie is made to hit the PG-13 mark. The studios figure they'll market the film to appeal to adults, but kids will still be able to get into the door. Adults just bring their kids along and save paying some babysitter. With "The Matrix" the kids are bringing the adults along to get in the door. There is actually a good possibility "Matrix: Reloaded" would have made less money if it were rated PG or PG-13. It has released in 20 other countries though it deserved to release in more countries like how X2 did. Internet penetration is very high in India and I can see that people here are not going to wait till June 13 when this movie will release across India. It is widely being reported here that MATRIX RELOADED has broken a few box office records through the media. Pirate copies of MATRIX RELOADED have arrived everywhere across India (available from Friday evening) and it is the pirates who will steal the show here. These pirated copies must be coming from Malaysia because those who have seen them say that the DVDs have subtitles in chinese and malay. And as I understand Warner Bros, India will not be given the prints till June 3rd. Only wish the studios will speed up their releases soon here in India. And X2 which will release here on 30 May hardly has any excitement left. I have a tendency to agree with Michael. It didn't do all that well today in Anacortes. Hopefully the reason was we had a "Waterfest" going on in town, but I don't think that took a real big chunk out of today's attendance. If the multi's with 6+ prints of that thing started each one as they were supposed to, there were a whole lot of starts on Wednesday. The Matrix Reloaded grossed an estimated $93.26M for Fri-Sat-Sun ($135.768M since Wednesday night). Spider-Man brought in $114.844M its first 3 days. Despite the huge success of the "Matrix Reloaded" opening, Australian investors at Roadshow Village, the company that co-financed it, are not likely to see any profits from it, The Sydney Morning Herald observed today (Tuesday). The revenue from the picture, will be used to offset losses, pay down debt and finance other production.
