I'm involved in running a twice weekly cinema on the campus of the University of Wollongong, about 50km south of Sydney, Australia. We operate in a multi-purpose venue (used for graduations, examinations, weddings, conferences, rock shows, etc.) which has a flat floor but at three levels. We seat about 850, have a screen about 48' wide, and all three digital systems. We use Eprad double MUTs instead of platters, but only screen most films once. We sell out on a regular basis at $3 Aus ($2.40 at current exchange rate). We've been operating for about 30 years with most of our equipment purchased from box-office takings. And why?
Because we are completely volunteer-run. Visit our website at for some pictures. I'll have to send them in for the picture pages (if someone can tell me what size I should make them).
