Ok, Mike,
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday I believe, the showtimes for the Regal Hacienda Crossings in Dublin, CA were posted on Fandango. Out of curiousity, I clicked on the evening Kill Bill Vol. 2 shows and it advised they were sold out. I then clicked on a quite a few other movies showtimes and all of them were coming up as sold out. (Same exact problem KD was having).
However, I just checked again, and now it's working and you can buy tickets for all the shows.
Could it be that it was too early in the week to start selling tickets for the weekend? I.E. Regal wanted the showtimes advertised, but the powers that be hadn't confirmed or set up the on-line sales yet...
If that's the case, perhaps Fandango can put another message besides 'sold out', such as 'check back tomorrow to purchase tickets' or something. A customer wanting to buy tickets for the Friday show gets a sold out message on Tuesday, and then moves on to buy at another theatre chain...

Fandango doesn't know if the theatre has plans to add more tickets at a later time or not, and as such, wouldn't want to give a false impression if, say, the theatre decided not to sell any tickets online for that show. The only thing that Fandango knows is that there are zero tickets available for it to sell, and as such, sees that as being a Sold Out show, inasmuch as there are no tickets that it is capable of selling. The only logical message that they could really change it to would be 'Internet ticketing is sold out for this show, please call the Box Office with any further ticket inquiries for this show'.

Well, Fandango is not really bug free – at least, that is what this discussion has thrown up. Some more checks later, one might be tempted to think that the site is infested with bugs.
But is it not required of Fandango to explicitly state that where they list the desired show as ‘sold-out’, a patron need not assume the show is physically sold out or that the patron cannot buy tickets elsewhere ?
Even more surprising is, why even enliven that link for a show that is ‘sold-out’ ? They could disable any link to a ‘sold-out’ show. That way, when a customer clicks a link, he could come to expect that the show he clicked on is available. That is, given the absence of a different response than, “SORRY, THE SAID SHOW IS SOLD OUT’, why not block that show by means of de-linking it ?
