I usually did a staff meeting about twice a year. One before the Christmas rush (sometime around Thanksgiving) and one before the Summer rush (around Memorial day). They were held on Saturday morning before we opened and usually lasted an hour long. Attendance was MANDATORY!!! I usually took about a week to plan the agenda getting the necessary input from my management team. I would make out an outline and hand out copies to the employees so that they could follow along easier (a good trick as they are incline to pay attention and learn more if they have the agenda in frount of them to follow along). And of course at the end of the meeting I would open up the floor to any Q&A's. Oh and I would also buy the employees cider OJ and Doughnuts to snack on before the meeting starts.
