This sort of reminds me of when I was working as an usher at the Golf Mill Theatres in Niles, Illinois in 1980 during the run of there of "The Empire Strikes Back." For most of the summer, we ran a 70 print. Towards the fall, we switched to a 35 in a smaller house and I noticed there were a couple of brief shots added, one involving Luke in a vat of liquid and an extra effects shot at the end as the camera panned over the rebel space ships.
Remember, anything is possible with George "I Think I'll Change That" Lucas. Where I work now, we still have a "Revenge of the Jedi" teaser poster. And, don't forget "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Death" being changed to "Temple of Doom" prior to release. And, Hayden Christensen being added to the end of "Jedi" on the DVD, etc.

Sorry this is such a late reply to this topic.
The earlier quote "So this is how DEMOCRACY dies..." was the dialog on the EARLY film release (which was allowed to be previewed by film critics and the press). I was at a theater here in Pittsburgh where ROTS was seen early, and myself and all the ushers at the theater got to sit in on that presentation too. We ALL heard (and remember) DEMOCRACY.
When opening night came, and all of the midnight shows were pre-booked 100%, my same theater ALSO displayed the early print, just because we wanted to show ROTS in every theater possible. (we still had it, so why not show it)
Anyway, the OTHER (later) prints all had "LIBERTY". Several of us all commented on this change in dialog (among others).
Anyway, once opening night had passed, (and we didnt need to show so many 'sumultaneous' prints at the same time), we showed ONLY the later prints.
In other words, MANY people did actually hear DEMOCRACY, but only on DAY ONE -- and ONLY at the theater.
Noby else has ever heard DEMOCRADCY again after that opening date. Not at theaters, and not from the video releases (obviously)
P.S.
Anyone else remember Anakin saying...
ANAKIN: "They're getting CREAMED back there. Im going back to help" OBI-WAN: "NO. They're doing their job...|"
8-) The CREAMED line struck a couple of us as funny, and we all looked at each other (in the darkened theater) when we heard it from the EARLY print.
