We have always had "introducers" for the film festivals as well as nightly throughout the year. It lets the audience know that you are watching them as well as watching out for them. We also do a drawing on week nights good for one free medium popcorn any time at the Nugget Theatre. It is amazing how much everyone likes that. One of my managers used to remind everyone to pick up their trash and made such a point of it that, for years after, the Monday night clean up was noticeably easier. [Wink]

We have been doing pre-show announcements for quite some time now. We regularly get applause and it is a great tool to use for those who want to take their theatre to the next level of showmanship.
We do not use notes and try to cover three topics (not always the same three) We always cover Cell phones and it is effective. Second, we always announce a coming attraction, third, can be flexible such as website, a drawing, interesting tidbits of information regarding the movie they are about to see, etc. etc.
We always say that we will be in and out of the theatre at regular intervals to check quality (this helps deter the teenage bad behavior). We always thank them for coming because we know they have a choice and we want earn their confidence in us.
Last week I purchased a wireless microphone because it is hard to keep a the attention of a large audience without it.
