If I ran my business like the CBG, you would all laugh! $150/yr to be my customer??? PLEEEASE!

Buyer's groups work well if typical markups are high. In this industry most items move at 10-20%, therefore no real advantage.

Wayne could learn a thing or two about "winning friends and influencing people;" you should have heard his rant at the UDITOA (drive in) meeting! Louis

Mike,

There is only one company collecting the VPF and thats Access- It. No one else is collecting it unless prvate arrangements have been made. You could also lease your own system and pay the lease payments with your on screen advetising revenue.... this is entirely practical and leasing this stuff is much to your advantage... in fact I doubt that I'd ever want to sell outright any D-Cinema system. The biggest advantage of the lease is that you're not stuck with the equipment for ever. At the end of the lease period you have two choices..... buy the present system for a percentage of its market value at the time the lease expires or get rid of it all and have brand new D-Cinema equipment installed that is by then probably several generations advanced... this can happen say every 7 years or so.... just about the time semi's are going to be hard to get for your 100K dollar D-Cinema system. In essence you are not stuck with owning first or even second generation equipment permanently. This I see as a huge advantage for the independent exhibitor. I see many 10 and 12 screen locations making huge $$ with on screen advertising... even a single screen could pay for one leased projector in 7 years if its on screen ads were run efficiently.

Apart from the nuclear industry, are there many other examples of socialism in the US?

Mark - are these ads you're talking about "local" or "national" or a combination? (IOW, would I need to put on a suit and become an advertising salesman?)

Currently we run no ads and the thought of ads just about makes me [puke] but if it's a choice between running ads and going out of business in 5 years, I could learn to live with ads and I'm sure the customers could, too.

Mike,

People have become pretty acoustomed to seeing ads but I agree that it is tacky. The revenue that is generated is nothing to sneeze at!! I would run both type... local ads and the normal on screen "film" ads as well. Not an over dose of them but just enough to stash away over time for that rainy "digital day".
