So a picture that grosses $300 mil, and cost $150 mil is not in profit. You must add to the production cost the amount of advertising and prints, which could come close to the production cost. Let's say of the studio's share of $150 mil, they also must spend $100 mil for promotion, etc., so they only get back $50 mil on their $150 mil cost. Home video, cable, etc. might help close the gap.
