Author Topic: WTF is the deal with Deluxe and FedEx? John Roddy Expert Film Handler Posts: 114 From: Spring, TX, United States Registered: Dec 2012 posted 04-10-2014 03:14 PM                        My usual strategy with shipping out hard drives is to just leave them in box office one night, and come in the next evening to find them gone. This worked very well for UPS, but I've had trouble with FedEx since they're so hell-bent on keeping Ground and Express completely separate. Thanks to that, we have to go out of our way to ship out IMAX drives (they all have FedEx ground labels). These Deluxe labels, however, are all Express. We get regular deliveries from Express, so I figured I'd just try the same strategy here. Sure enough, the boxes I left down there were gone the next day. Cool. Nobody will pick them up. We have no FedEx drop off location in our town, so they'll sit there until they come pick them up. I was told by Deluxe over the phone that whenever a FedEx driver dropped off new drives, he'll pick up the returns. FedEx Express drivers will be stopping at all theatres serviced by Deluxe Digital Cinema every Tuesday and Friday between 1:00PM and 6:00PM to pick up any feature film hard drives that are ready to be returned. UPS returns for Trailers By Deluxe will remain the same as it works now. Please note: The drivers will not be asking for specific titles and there will be no additional fees or charges for these pickups. We understand that there will be times when no packages are available. Please be sure that only titles that are no longer required are placed out for pickups on these days and make sure to affix the return labels included in the boxes over the original shipping labels. A FedEx dispatcher will be calling your theatre to confirm pickup of any available packages. If your theatre is not open between the hours of 1:00PM and 6:00PM on Tuesday or Friday you may change the pickup day and time with the FedEx dispatcher, and/or please respond to this email with the time your theatre opens and your best contact information so that we may work out special arrangements with FedEx. Please make sure that the label has the "E" in the box, and not "G" (for FedEX Ground), for Express drivers will not take "G" labelled parcels.  |  IP: Logged Jack Ondracek Film God Posts: 2348 From: Port Orchard, WA, USA Registered: Oct 2002 posted 05-26-2014 01:51 PM                        Since my last post, I see that just about everything from Deluxe comes with Fedex return labels... except their trailer drives. Now, I have UPS coming to my place with pickup tags for some of the drives I have with Fedex labels on them. A few days ago, the Fedex driver said she would take them, but I think I need to figure out how I'll log or receipt that I've given them to Fedex instead of UPS. {edit} Just got off the phone... no wait!! Deluxe says they are going Fedex with features and UPS for trailers. We shouldn't see UPS asking for features unless Deluxe runs short of drives and hires UPS to do a nationwide sweep for them (got it?). As of this week, Fedex is supposed to stop by on Tuesday and Friday, to pick up anything you might have for them. If you have a Fedex office nearby, as we do, you should be able to drop your drives off there. Is there a Possibility in the future that these Hardrives will be made in a disposable Type format where after their Run they do a Mission Impossible type destruction of the encypted Movie and then be thrown away.Even though returning HD's is much simpler and less costly than 35mm Film was it seems like from this thread that dealing with Fed-ex at this point is a hassle. If they made a disposable one time use HD for theaters than there would be no worries or hastle on returning them. Might be the small markets that could be affected. FedEX called me to day to see if I'll be satisfied with just the Friday pickups, in which I mentioned it was totally fine to do. On the reverse side: Been a while since I've seen TECH do any feature deliveries. Just get my weekly "Trail Mix" drives from them. Just got the feature The Double delivered by UPS from Tech as well as trailers. Yesterday's Deluxe trailers came in UPS and have a UPS return label. Who knows what they're thinking.  |  IP: Logged
