In the case of film, once the wrong show was loaded up (presuming 2 prints on that screen and presuming a platter multiplex), it's pretty hard to re-thread that same movie and not the only other print sitting there on the platter.
Granted that's not necessarily the case for changeover houses or a platter array, but we're talking about a traditional multiplex here.
Still though in this instance I DO understand why the ORIGINAL screwup happened due to the similar movie titles.
Speaking of "similar labeling", I once started working at a theater where they did not label their prints. That may not seem like a big deal, but they wrapped lots of extra tail leader on the end like any projectionist worth a flip did, so that made it quite difficult to tell what was what and they DID occasionally thread the wrong movie. The lead guy at the time I took over said he could keep up with what was where and on double ups, one was usually noticeably longer than the other, so they could tell that way. Of course I promptly started labeling the tails anyway, as there just wasn't any solid logic in skipping that step. I also thought it was a bit foolish to assume everyone kept up with the format of the print. Sure *I* could (and did) keep up with what was what, but the extra 30 seconds it took to label the print was cheap insurance since there was obviously more than one person in the booth operating.
