Requiring a ticket for a void is an audit trail issue. About 10 years ago we had an issue where a former assistant manager was arrested for theft because he voided several thousand dollars of merchandise over a period of a couple of months. Part of the reason we were able to figure this out was because of voids which didn't have a ticket.

I realize an internal theft prevention policy should not be used in a way which hurts customers. However, this is much like a store requiring a receipt for a return.

Of course a manager always has the authority to do a refund without a ticket if circumstance dictate.
