Author Topic: UK cinemas pull "Blue Story" after riots take place at screenings Dave Bird Jedi Master Film Handler Posts: 777 From: Perth, Ontario, Canada Registered: Jun 2000 posted 11-28-2019 08:21 AM                        Frank, once every two or three years I get a phone call asking if we've had a chance to do a screening check and of course the answer is no, since we're outdoors. Every Friday is "play and pray" for us. No issues so far. On the other topic, pulling titles for safety reasons. I'd agree, no idea why people would want to riot outside a theatre for something they can choose not to watch, but still, a no-brainer for sure. I'll take it one step further. We played Joker this fall for two weekends and did well with it. Had a chance to screen it with staff during the week after opening weekend. It was well done, acting was great, but it was just the darkest thing most of us had ever seen. My comment was "my soul hurts". We have the luxury of saying that we'll never play a sequel to it or anything like it again. Just not who we are, not interested. And I'm not even sure I could say I didn't like the film, but I am certain that's not who we are.  |  IP: Logged Randy Stankey Film God Posts: 6539 From: Erie, Pennsylvania Registered: Jun 99 posted 11-28-2019 01:00 PM                     It's always easier for politicians and pundits to blame problems on movies instead of actually solving social problems, crime and poverty. It's absolutely ludicrous! Yeah, I remember having a riot break out in a theater. It was the opening night of "Set it Off!". A bunch of smoked-up idiots showed up to the movie. Half way through, somebody wise cracked to the wrong person and, before you know it, the place was in chaos. We called the cops. They came and threw the trouble makers into the back of a Paddy Wagon. We comped anybody who wanted to watch the rest of the movie into the next show for free. We cleaned up the mess and continued on. Did the movie cause the riot? No! Idiots caused the riot!
