Randy --- I've usually used WWV (5, 10, 15, 20 mHz. on shortwave radio) for the "official" time, but the http://time.gov site is great. Thanks.

Just remember that there's a delay when the data packets are sent over the internet. That's why there's a line at the bottom of the clock that says "Accurate within X seconds". It's usually a fraction of a second but keep an eye on it when the 'net gets crowded that number goes up. I've seen it get as high as a couple seconds.

If you use a time server on your computer the system offsets the transmission of data to account for the delay. It sends a packet and your computer sends it back. After a few seconds, the server averages the delay and divides by 2 then offsets itself by that number.

FYI, 303-499-7111 is the phone number for the atomic clock at the National Bureau of Standards. It should be in sync with the naval observatory clocks. ntp is great for computers, but humans generally like to hear a (mechanical) voice read the time to them...

I've got that number programmed into my cellular! I listed it as "THE Time".

You can also call the U.S. National Naval Observatory. They have a 900 number, though. I'm told the reason is that they use special phone switches that are SUPPOSED to compensate for the delay in the phone lines. It's only 50 cents a minute. It's a lot compared to using the NIST number or WWV but the number is easy to remember: 900-410-TIME.
