During Steve Martin's opening (which I thought was hilarious) I couldn't understand why Russell Crowe wasn't even smiling. Doesn't he have a sense of humour? Everyone else who was shown in close-up was in stitches. What gives?

Russel Crowe is just a stoic, boring guy. I bet he's a hoot and a hollar to hang around with!

Dwayne, believe me there IS a difference. Folks (even some media here) like to 'adopt' successful Kiwis (New Zealanders) when it suits them...remember that great success 'The Piano' from a few years back? That was another example of adoption.

I even heard one radio announcer describe Russell as a 'Kiwi Aussie'

...anyway, at least Tom Hanks didn't win for that slop called 'Cast Away' so I am therefore able to watch the awards in years to come.

Congratulations to all the nominees...now go out and make some good movies.

I'd like to see Seinfeld host the awards one year. He could get all of the old cast together to present the different awards and the Soup Nazi could step in anytime the show is dragging with useless time-wasting segments like songs and choreography. Better yet, Julia-Louise Dreyfus could dance to the music.

I still just don't get the bs 45 second speech time limit, the performances of the songs, the need to show clips of the best picture, and most importantly...where's the technical achievement award clips? Damnit, I wanted to see John Pytlak accept his well deserved award on worldwide television!

My daughters and I were sitting at the table just to the left of the stage at the March 3 Academy Sci-Tech Awards ceremony at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel. Renee Zellweger hosted the ceremony.

Irwin Young of DuArt Labs in NYC (clip shown on TV) well deserved the Gordon E. Sawyer award for his lifelong service to the film industry. He has nurtured many young filmmakers and developed lab techniques that help independent filmmakers.

Agreed with the comments on the problems of the Sci-Tech awards not getting enough coverage. I hate awards shows and avoid watching them as much as possible, but I would have been interested to have seen the presentations John P., Irwin Young, etc.

I do find the Oscars (tm) (r) to be sort of depressing in a way, since I almost invariably disagree completely with the Academy, and good films are often overlooked in favor of popular films. Requiem for a Dream should have won Best Picture this year, no contest. The Best Documentary Feature category bothers me, too: was "American Movie" even nominated for its year? "Troublesome Creek" should have won easily when it was nominated. And so on...

Grr.

I have not seen Traffic but I intend to. I saw Erin Brockovich (didn't Cher star in this fim a few years back?) Big deal. "Movie of the year"? Ha!
Crotching Tiger.... Decent attempt but didn't go far enough in any direction except cinematography to make it worthy of an Oscar.
Really there wasn't much competition this year. I think the Oscars went where they were supposed to except Rdiley Scott certainly should have gotten Director. Also Crotching Tiger should have gotten two oscars and thats all.
