Dwayne, believe me there IS a difference. Folks (even some media here) like to 'adopt' successful Kiwis (New Zealanders) when it suits them...remember that great success 'The Piano' from a few years back? That was another example of adoption.I even heard one radio announcer describe Russell as a 'Kiwi Aussie'  ...anyway, at least Tom Hanks didn't win for that slop called 'Cast Away' so I am therefore able to watch the awards in years to come.
