IMDb has a "goofs" section for every movie, and it's by far the most extensive set of such lists I've seen.

This goes back to my MENACE 2 SOCIETY posting where the revolver shoots eight times and people are still afraid of the gun. It was suggested that...

"Maybe the gunman had a 9mm with a full clip and one in the chamber.
That's the one scene of Menace II Society that I recall: The man says "Kiss my motherf&$)!*' ass" and gets blown away, still in his seat."

I just watched this scene again today. The gunman in question pulls out a snubnose 38 with a six shot revolving chamber. And actually the guy who gets shot says "suck my dick" just before getting shot eight times.

And on the case of LAST ACTION HERO, the film was shot with 43 intentional goofs. This was part of the actual production, and not actual glaring goofs. It is kind of fun to go looking for them.

Came across another one today in The Cat's Meow.

When Wm. Randolph Hearst is looking for a doctor after shooting William Ince, "The Chief" pores through a directory with addresses that end "Los Angeles, CA". The Cat's Meow is set in 1926. "CA" is a US Postal Service abbreviation -- not put into common use until the late 60's/early 70's.

My favorite but nit-picky item is from L.A. Story (1991) where Steve Martin goes to pick up his pants in the pouring rain, and you can see in the reflection of the store windows that it's bright, dry and sunny everywhere else on the street. The another scene when Steve Martin's doing the old highway gun shooting bit -- and they pull back to reveal the opposite lanes of freeway completely empty.

FILM-FLUBS (or one of them) pointed out that in a scene in L.A. Story where Steve Martin gets into the passenger side of the car, he then emerges later from the drivers side of the car. This 'flub' was sooo incorrect because during the course of the car driving itself, Steve Martin says "hey .. let me not drive!' and switches sides of the car.

Don't we all just know everything about our favorite films?

Are you certain that it wasn't used before the '60s? Many people addressed envelopes with abbreviations before the postal standards came into use. I've seen old letters with NY for New York (obvious), NJ for New Jersey (also obvious), and O for Ohio (sent in-state so confusion with Oklahoma or Oregon not a problem).

Of course, you're probably right (for the 1920s, Calif. is a more likely abbreviation than CA). However, sometimes we "know" things about a time period that surprisingly turn out to be wrong. The abbreviation doesn't qualify automatically as an anachronism unless there's supporting evidence from other materials from that time period.

I don't catch all that many goofs in films, but quite a few "Inaccurately reported as goofs" on IMDB were sent in by me.

Smokey and The Bandit, Sally Fields looks at the speedo in Burt Reynolds Trans Am and says something like "you are going 100 miles an hour" the shot then goes to the speedo and it clearly says 70 miles an hour. Still by far one of my favorite movies though.

The best one I'd seen in a long time was in THE UNTOUCHABLES.
The scene were Kevin Costner was trying to talk Sean Connery into joining up with them in Connery's apartment.
Close up of Costner doing the sales pitch, Connery's shirt buttoned at the top.
Goes back to Costner, with more sales pitch. Switches back to Connery, with shirt unbuttoned.
This occures about 2 more times.
Someone asleep at the switch?

I'm surprised noone mentioned the Scorpion King boo-boo. About 50-55 minutes into the actual movie (I didn't watch the whole movie, but it's something like his knee gets hurt, then healed up, then they find some crazy old guy, then they get captured and go to a village or something) in the middle of the screen horizontally, towards the lower third vertically, you can see a camera man. He comes out from behind a rock (not The Rock) wearing a white t-shirt and a black hat. He's crouched over carrying a camera. Can't miss him.

The last childs play movie. I cant remember, but someone gets hit by a semi truck at some point in the movie. The body explodes before the truck hits the body.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - after Humphrey Bogart has shot Tim Holt and is stalking through the jungle pursued by Indians, he looks round in a 180° arc. As the camera pans with his point of view, you can just see the outline of a large studio searchlight-type arc lamp on the edge of the set.
