I recall the screen was about 40 x 100 feet. Nothing like a fresh coat of paint and 8000 watts of carbon light (120 amps x 67 volts) to make the pictures shine! We never had a problem with the water cooling for the carbon jaws and the projectors --- surprised they decided to "wimp out" on the light output to get rid of the water. Once you got to know those Ashcraft lamps, you could get every bit of light from those carbons without risking a flame-out, wasted carbon or burned film. Maximum light output was about 17,000 lumens with the shutter running! Few xenon lamps even come close. Burned only about 5-inches of rotating positive carbon trim for each 20 minute reel, so you certainly could have kept the carbon lamps, even for the large reels.------------------ John P. yup, we had run the large reels in the Theatre in the village with carbons, it works... as for the water, the fella that was working there in the early 70's had a problem with it!!! from either plugged lines, (happened to me more than once) or because he was a bone head and kept forgetting to turn the water on! Melted the silver Jaws MANY times... 8K xenon would have been GREAT! Oh well... Screen is 120' as I had just mesured it last spring when trying to get new sheet metal for it... either way it is BIG! This reminds me< I have to order a new Xenon bulb for one machine, was about waisted last fall but he didn't feel it worth replacing till spring... If your out this way over the summer stop in! I dunno if/when I will be there as I am working in 3 places now, if I'm not, Bob Paterson will be there he may remember you. Tony.
