At the AMC is Olathe, Kansas Friday night, I didn't see the sell-out crowds you would expect for a record-setting movie. I definately believe it, we only had 8 shows per day and we sold out every single one. And the phone was ringing off the hook asking if we were sold out because it was sold out everywhere else. The local Long Beach edwards had *28* showtimes and someone told me by two they were sold out until the midnight showings.

The numbers are real and verifiable. The reason you are not seeing sellouts is because SONY did not put a cap on the number of prints they would make. If you wanted one, or ten, you could have em. They wanted to make sure that they took in as much money as possible in thier thirteen days of fame. So by not limiting the number of prints and not raping theaters on the terms, there was little possibility of sellouts.

Here in salt lake utah, a town of 800,000, it was playing on more than thirty screens, with an average auditorium of about 250. I imagine that is the way it is all over the place.

Question is, how many screens did it open on? I heard is was more than 8,000. Anyone have any idea?

Every local Drive-In within a 75 mile radius of Nashville had it playing this weekend. Me and my family drove up to Franklin, Kentucky to catch it at the drive-in there only to see the gates locked and a HUGE sign that read "SOLD OUT"!! They had people parked in places I didn't even know were actual parking spots. There had to be 500-600 cars on the lot.

We left there and drove to Lafayette, TN (pronounced "LUH- FAY - YET" in Tennessee) to the Macon County drive-in. We got there 20 minutes after the movie had started and got the last open parking space next to the dumpster. We were the last folks let in, as everyone who tried to enter after us was turned away.

Yahoo news says about the Spiderman screen count:

"It grossed $31,535 per theater, a record for a film released in more than 3,000 outlets (3,615 in this case)"

First weekend gross, certified and official: $114,844,116.

First weekend per-theater average: $31,769.

"It's a newwwww worrrrrld recorrrrrd!"

Try and top THAT, Lucasfilm!

There's plenty of Spider-Man stuff on Box Office Mojo.

Individual theatre grosses are the highest I've ever seen. The E-Walk in NYC had a $314,534 gross, according to Box Office News. Can't tell if they are running 4 or 5 prints.

just to put things in perpesctive. The opening week's gross for the 1953 movie THE ROBE was somewhere around $350,000 at just ONE theatre in NYC, The Roxy, at 1953 prices.

Even though this was an action-type movie, I somewhat enjoyed the fact that it was in flat. It gave it a comic booky feel.

More amazing stories . . . Spider-Man took in $11 million on Monday. Yes, $11 million! Must be among the all-time leaders for a non-summer or non-holiday Monday.

Mark L: Last weekend the Loews E-Walk took in $314,534 from 5 prints while the UA Union Square took in $233,208 from 6 prints.

2nd weekend estimate per Box Office Mojo: $72 million. If it holds up in the actual count it'll be the highest-grossing 2nd weekend ever.

Spider-Man is now the fastest ever to $200 million -- beating out Star Wars: Episode 1.

With these kinds of numbers and all the bad vibes on Episode 2 I don't see many people buying advance tickets for Episode 2.
