Speaking of cartoon characters, I think the prisoner in the comic strip Wizard of Id is named "Bung", isn't he?Anyway, some of us had fun with this tread. I had a few laughs out of it. About 30 years ago, I saw an article about a study by the United States Government to determine if the placement of bungs in the barrels should be changed. It cost close to $100,000 if I recall correctly. After the study, the conclusion was to leave the bung where it was because the extra product salvage in the barrels was not worth placing the bungs closer to the edge of the barrel. Knowing how the government operates sometimes, I honestly don't know if it was a spoof article or not, It probably has a 50/50 chance of being correct. This one I know is true. You fellows in the Pacific Northwest probably heard of it, and if I recall correctly, Senator William Proxmire of Wisconsin issued a Golden Fleece Award for this one. Seems as though a grant was given to a college in the Seattle area to study the reactions of a person if he or she came home after work one night and discovered a Hippopotamus in their back yard. It cost about $50,000 to fund that study. I am not kidding! What the government will waste the taxpayer's money on is disgusting at times.
