One Hour Photo goes wide this Friday (9/13). Most of the theaters that were to have opened The Transporter will get One Hour Photo instead.

It is interesting for me to see that this movie didn`t open everywhere on the same date. In Germany a movie opens just on one day nation-wide. Is that common practice in the US or only with specific releases?

The "One Hour Photo" web site is very cool (you need Flash though). If this movie lives up to the hype, it should do very well.

But still isn't coming to Eugene until 9/20... Hits Corvallis on 9/13, in a better theater. I might have to drive the 30 miles to see it there...

What is the deal with limited release movies that go wide a few weeks later? Is that supposed to make them more special or something?

It's a strategy called a platform release. It allows word of mouth and big city reviews to trickle out and support a wider release.

A very smart move for most Art Films considering that word of mouth is how they become big, not advertisment. Greek Wedding is a great example.

Some are saying that "Greek Wedding" is slated to hit $100M this weekend. I noticed something else with Art Films, that they do much better during the week. Wedding was at #2 on the weekend beginning the month, but jumped to #1 for Monday-Thursday, then back to #2 (but not by much) because of Swimfan.

With Barbershop and Stealing Harvard (Freddy Got Fingered 2?) as the choices for this weekend, Greek Wedding might hit #1. Then again, ONE HOUR PHOTO goes wide also.

Didn't "American Beauty" have a strange release also? Our theater didn't get that until 2 weeks after its initial release, and the theater down the street got it 2 weeks after us.
