But hell for me would be in the Alex position (as already described) with opera - live, film, recorded (it's that awful noise that bothers me so the image is optional) forced upon me. Or Celine Dion, although that's like comparing slowly drowning to burning alive in the tolerable stakes. And Opera 6.x is definitely an upgrade from Opera 7. I've never had a seizure before or anything. The emergency doc's said it was probably exhaustion and dehydration. The situation was blown out of proportion by the witnesses (naturally) since there's no way I could have stopped breathing that long without any brain damage. I think it was more along the lines of a minute or two. Still, that's scary! I faxed over all the info to my regular doctor and see what's up. Like I said, everything was normal up until that point. Mark -- I'll be the FIRST to admit I'm afraid of the dark. Hope that never happens to you again. Stay well. The only time I've ever passed out was when I was having blood drawn and the phlebotomist was having a LOT of trouble getting a good vein and had to stick me repeatedly. My wife has epilepsy, but has never had a seizure where she stopped breathing. Hopefully your doctors are confident enough that you passed out for an assignable reason (exhaustion or dehydration) that you can work by yourself or drive a car without further tests. You don't want it to happen again when you're behind the wheel or operating machinery. On the hell topic, I´m going to have to quote the french philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre: Hell is other people. In that man is free, and all our restrictions are from other people not being hurt or offended and what not. I take more to mean that sometimes it´s hell being around other people. Especially crowds is something I have some difficulty handling, like Christmas shopping the very last day. But I´m swedish, so I make a fist in my pocket and keep holding a grudge. I fainted once. I had a fever of 1000 degrees and passed out at my parents house. I'm not sure how long I was out. It was an interesting experience. Just falling and not knowing it and waking up on the floor. As for Hell, it would be drowning for me. Which almost happened, I was out in our 17' John boat with a 15 horse Yamaha. I leaned down to grab a towel and wipe my sunglasses, suddenly I was thrown over board, port side the engine cut a sharp 90 degree turn throwing me overboard. As I hit the water I tried to surface, I could feel the bubbles of the engine propeller go right over my head. If I had to surfaced I would of died, I felt as if someone held me down that extra second. The tiller has a knob, if tightened the engine will not turn, it had come loose. I surfaced and the boat was doing 360's in the water. It was damn scary. I had to dodge the boat and swim to shore. A guy helped me stop the boat by getting close and pulling the gas hose off. I had only bruised my shin which was scrapped bad when I went over board. My advise is to wear the kilt switch and a life vest.  |  IP: Logged Mark J. I'm glad somebody finally said something in reference to Thomas' blackout. I just jumped in on this thread and was like "Wow... you just can't faze a film-techer." Glad you're ok Thomas. As for my personal hell... I do think Opera music is pretty bad and I spent my entire time at La Boheme just utterly crawling out of my skin. But I don't think it's THAT bad. I think silence and eating nothing but fast food would be a hell for me. Music and conversation are very important to me. I go nuts after too much silence. And I do love me new and trendy restaurants, or just plain and simple GOOD FOOD. I tend to get depressed when I want to be around friends but nobody is available and I end up alone all evening, or even worse, alone for a weekend. Registered: Aug 1999 posted 05-20-2003 04:56 PM                     Hell for me is living in a small town--where I grew up and want to live-- and being canned from a job in the middle of a major economic local depression along with hundreds of other people. Hell is looking at the bills that are coming in. Hell is going to the Employment office and being told that there is nothing available. Hell is having your previous employer holding-up sending their paperwork to the employment office. Hell is having no extra money, and selling off a collection. Even the local Carmike, Regal/UA's dont have the courtesy to call and at least TELL me that there are no available positions. One UA theatre even had a sign ("Help Wanted") in their lobby. No reply. Thats Hell. I WILL NOT let Hell take me. I will get through this one way or another. I've been applying at some really different-type jobs this past week, and this week. We'll just have to wait and see.... A movie that draws the type of audience who doesn't go to many movies, so we are trying really extra hard to make a good impression - and - 2. A couple of families with screaming babies show up, and ruin everything. I blacked out once, when I was 8. I was on the swing set (in 100 degree heat) at school, and just sort of fell off. I broke both arms and had both arms in casts for 6 months. Not fun! I'm with you guys on the loneliness thing, too. With my working hours I don't have much of a social life. I'll usually end up going to a movie or something to get out of the house. I don't mind going to a movie by myself as much as I mind eating out by myself. That sucks!  |  IP: Logged
