IGM at one time made carousels that played the standard cart in some of the automated radio stations. I think there was other companies that did the same.

You're probably thinking of Sono-Mag, Paul. Their carousels looked suspiciously similar to IGM's stuff. I may have my chronology wrong here, but I remember Gates having some wierd multi-cart machine that took up much of a rack... operating something like Schaeffer's Arista-Cart. The first 48-cart unit I ever saw was IGM's Insta-Cart... pretty cool if you needed truely-random access to any cart at any time. Maybe you know if it was marketed before the Arista-Cart design (multi-cart single play stacks).

The ITC stuff Josh is looking for ought to be just about everywhere, if he has the time to look around... especially where a station might have converted to digital.

I love the old reel to reel machines. So much so that I use two of them in my sound rack for non sync. If I can't have reels on my projectors, then by gawd, I'll have them in my sound rack. [thumbsup]

Since even blank reel-to-reel tape is getting harder to find these days, how difficult is it to find blanks for those old cart machines? Are new carts still being made, or are old carts somehow "serviced" and reloaded with fresh tape?

You're supposed to sling them against the wall when they annoy you, & watch them explode into shimmering shards! That is traditional.

I've seen some place that still rebuilds carts.

At least Fidelipacs still had pads to go flat & torment folks! Those brown Scotch carts ended up padless, with a plastic adjustment screw to play with when bored.
