Author Topic: Gigli Delayed To August 1st Charles Everett Phenomenal Film Handler Posts: 1470 From: New Jersey Registered: May 2001 posted 07-30-2003 02:20 PM                     Sony has been yo-yoing on the release date for Gigli and didn't firm it up at 8/1 until a couple of weeks ago. Want a real shocker? Bend It Like Beckham gets re-released on 8/1 -- and goes at least semi-wide (~1000 theaters). As one wag has put it, "Gigli Rigli Bombs". That being said, I cannot believe that we are forced to waste a screen on this for another week. This is a perfect example of how screwed up the distribution contracts are. It wont suprise me if Sony makes us keep it for a third week with the usual threat of withholding future product. Sony has replaced prebooked TV ad slots with teasers for "Bad Boys II". We run Gigli through Sunday of this week and dump it. It gets one show Friday, Saturday and Sunday then goes out entirely!
