Haha! I remember Empire Carpet from when I lived in Chicago.

"Five-Eight-Eight, Two-Three-Hundred, EMPIRE!"

I hate Meow-Mix. Thought it was cool at first, but "Meow Meow Meow Meow" is getting old. They should make the cat(s) do funnier things.

Any commercials during Daytime TV. Especially on CBS where the only commercials are for "People who have trouble breathing and are on Medicare." or "How you can have affordable life insurance for just pennies a day." or some other joint-back-arthritis-wrinkle-ointment-cream! I just end up taping the Price Is Right and watching it later to bypass the nonsense.

Ever notice that a lot of commercials on at mid-day are lawyers that focus on the out of work or professional welfare recipients with all the "Have you been injured or laid up because of dog bites or SOMEONE ELSES neglect? We can get money for you." These assholes are why our insurances are through the roof and you can hardly say a word to anyone without worrying if they'll read something into it and sue you. I HATE those ads. [fu]

I really HATE all pharmaceutical commercials. There should be a 100% total ban on all prescription drug commercials on TV. I also don't think they should be allowed to advertise in magazines. This is one reason why f**king health costs are so high in this country (the biggest culprits are malpractice attorneys and insurance companies).

I totally depise those Valtrex commercials. This shit is herpes medicine. But the people they show in the ads are sexy models that ride bikes in the park, do rock climbing and other pretty-people baloney. The message I get from the ad is, "you have the burn, but take Valtrex so you can be sexy and spread the burn to other people."

Sometimes I check out the business news on CNN when I get home from work. Lately they've been airing these commercials for Lamisil. That's a drug to treat toenail fungus. Yeah, like I really want to see some CGI cartoon little monster scratching away at the skin under some guy's big toenail. Totally ruins my appetite! F**king gross!

We need a ban on tampon and panty liner commercials. C'mon. I might be eating a plate of spaghetti while watching a TV show. And then a damned Tampax ad appears. Suddenly the red sauce on my Vermicelli doesn't seem so great. Why don't those guys come up with something besides blue water to pour on a panty liner? We know the stuff it traps isn't blue!

The "Invention Submission Corporation" commercials are shit. They have crappy CGI cartoon cave guys making fire or carving a wheel made of rock. Pure cheese in quality. On top of that, the company is run by a bunch of f**king criminals. Do a web search on "Invention Submission" and you have a number of links detailing their scams and investigations conducted against them by the FTC.

The Viagara commercials involving the race car are crap. I don't want to see Viagara commercials anyway since 48% of my e-mail is Viagara related spam (the other 48% is for spam for enlarging one's member). Promoting a Viagara race car is stupid. Something that goes real fast with a Viagara logo on it may subliminally cause premature ejaculation. It goes fast and it's over fast!

I don't even know about any of the ad campaigns during the last 5 or so years, thanks to the proliferation of onscreen logos during the shows I've shut out TV altogether. I wrote a few sponsors asking them to pull their advertising until that crap comes to an end.
I just got a DVD recorder and I'm making discs of all the really old commercials I have on tape though!
NO-BODY DEMANDS MORE FROM A DATSUN (BOOM! BOOM!) THAN DATSUN! WE ARRRRRRE DRIVEN! (Hang tough, Datsun!)
I'm the marvelous magical Burger King! I can do most anything!

Joe, I was going to start a post on this very topic, but since I'm a little late chiming in, there's not much I can add. Everything I hate in TV commercials has already been covered very well in these posts.

On a related topic, I will add (without starting an entirely new thread) that I can't stand disclaimers in radio ads these days. The ones where they put :15 of copy into :05 of air time? All I hear is: "Bluh-luh-luh, bluh-luh-luh-luh. Bluh-luh, Luh-luh-luh, blu-luh-luh-luh-luh!" A couple of seconds I can tolerate, but after 4 or 5 seconds of that nonsense, it grates extrememly fast and extrememly deep! It's ultimately annoying and a huge tune out factor. (If it goes for very long, I HAVE to switch stations... can't STAND it!)

Any commercial for computers featuring Intel processors. You know when you hear a bad song on the radio and your mind keeps "playing" it ad nauseum?...well, that short, stupid Intel "soundmark" has that effect on me.

Thank goodness for "mute" buttons!

I hate to say it but I think ALL of the WWWAAAAASSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPP (Budweiser) commercials are way past their prime. They were funnier when they first came out. Now they are old.

ALL TV commercials! They are why children are getting ADHD/ADD like never before.

I had to go into the hospital 2 weeks ago. The night I went in I was stuck in the emergency room for 6 hours with TV going non-stop. Just one hour with all that [bs] is enough to make you go postal.

I unplugged my cable 5 years ago last month because I was paying $45/month and only using it 2 hours a week. I finally took the TV in my place to the recycling center [Big Grin] last March.

$45 a month for cable?? I was getting it for FREE last year and still couldn't find anything to watch on it!! The only reason I even have an antenna hooked up now is for the auto-clock-set signal, and in case there's another terrorist attack or something.

Oops, just came up with some.

"Can ya hear me now?" "Can ya hear me now?" HATE that one, sounds like the phone's NOT working when I hear him saying that incessantly. And the other cell phone ads, with the guy who's "only here to HELP" individuals solve the world's ills, which are all caused by noisy cell phone reception! Go to hell!

Yes, Don! Dell's ads purely GRATE on me. Those moronic kids are so damned obnoxious!

Local ads, especially corny ones, I can tolerate. Primarily because they're non-professional. (Except those Jordan's ads, Scott! Somehow, I don't trust old men with pony tails... they give me the impression they're involved in illicit activities.) But it's entertaining to see how many different hot girls the guy from "Cherry Hill Triplex" can parade on camera - ones that just 'happened' to walk in off the street and buy a car, incidentally - to make his ads sell.

National agency ads, by and large, rub me the wrong way. They have a tendency to be too "clever" and smug.

One exception: the "Osteo Bi-Flex" ad with Frankenstein. They show a clip from the Karloff movie, with the monster grimacing and growling. A thoughtful, bemused voice begins, "That used to be me, when I had joint pain." Then they show him playing tennis, in yoga class, gardening, and playing the banjo for a group of kids. That's so hilarious!
[Smile]

EDIT: Oh, cool! It's online. Frankenstein ad
