Nowhere in Particular. Registered: Aug 1999 posted 08-08-2003 07:27 AM                     1984 Ford F-150 long wheel base with a 300 six, and a 3-speed (with overdrive) on the floor. 4x2. I bought this truck from an individual after it had run with no oil in the engine. I rebuilt the lower end of the engine...all new bearings, etc. Truck has right at 300,000 miles on it. The rebuilt engine has 100,000. It had a Tommy Lift on it when I got it. A Tommy Lift is a motorized tailgate. I sold it for nearly 3 times what I paid for the entire truck. It's an old work truck. Looks rough, but keeps on going. I maintain it, and will drive it from now on... I love driving a straight-drive. However, I like an automatic, too. I worked on a farm for a while and drove a dump truck with a 2-speed rear end (and no brakes, essentially). I've only had one vehicle with an auto trans in my life, and that was the first 68 skylark I bought from a friend of the old man's who sold it to me for 50 bucks with a blown tranny. Then I headed over to Stinky's Auto Salvage and spent another 50 bucks on a tranny. It has a 3 litre v6 petrol engine with LP gas conversion, 5 speed manual gearbox and the Aussie icon a bullbar on the front. The canopy serves well as both the cargo area and a travelling dogs kennel. And of course the obligatory cb radio. John Spooner. Perfect for hauling film and candy shipments, and river-bed driving/hill climbing. I used to be a certified "car guy" but I got my first pickup in '92 (also a Ranger), put 125,000 miles on it and traded it for this new one in late '01. Paul-I can't believe how many people out there espically my age dont know how to drive a standard transmission. Thats what I learned to drive in. Now I've got my Class A permit and have been driving semi-truck for my dad on occasion. Great truck with 120k . I now drive a 2001 BMW 330i, steptronic transmission 220hp straight six. I've hit a 130 twice. Talk about a change. I was tried of the 2 seater and traffic. If only people knew how much of a pain in the ass it is to drive a stick shift in traffic. Don, said quote: 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4 (Built on a Mazda Chassis). I was under the impression Ford built the trucks and Mazda just put their badges on the truck. The Ranger is a Mazda hybrid. I know the The Ranger is the same as a B- seris for Mada. The interiors are alike, the engine is Ford, but what Don said threw me off. A Mazda chassis on a Ford truck? That is what is confusing me.
