Procmail is your friend. I'm semi-seriously considering auto-bouncing this crap to postmaster@microsoft.com and abuse@microsoft.com. Maybe someone there will eventually get the message that we're sick and tired of their buggy, insecure POS operating systems.

I innocently opened an email image from my mom yesterday. I was at her house when she sent it to me. It is a 68k image of my 4 year old nephew. My sister sent it to my mom from work. My mom has webTV.

When I got it, it was 248k and I didn't notice the size of it. I downloaded it. Yep, it was on the hard drive. About 15 minutes went by, and my computer all but stopped running. It was still processing, but slow. I stopped what I was doing and re-started the thing. Came back normally, but now, I am missing 5 image files from my hard drive. The one that I downloaded the image to, and 4 others in the same group.

I'm sick. I lost all of my Holmes 8 images, and all of my info for my homepage that I was working on. All gone. A total of 1,488 images.

I checked the hard drive, and it shows that it is OK. I called my sister and told her about the virus. She has sent that image to about 30 people.

I also lost my email program. It will take me awhile to recover. I'm not terribly computer-literate.

I have received several of these fake MS e-mails, however the ISP`s filter (Webspider) removed the virus, so all I got was the header. A good investment for an extra $5 per month.
Note that the links on the page actually do go to Microsoft`s site, giving a false sense of security to the recipient.
There are many good anti-spam and firewall downloads available, but when you live in Australia and do not have a credit card, they cannot be accessed and so of no use, except for the AVG free virus download from Grisoft.com which I have installed and it catches incoming viruses as well as checking outgoing e-mails.
I recently installed the free Ad-aware software by Lava soft, upon running it found about 90 possible browser attacks and spyware installed which I removed. It was of interest that a large % of the spyware was from Real Player. Also that silly blue talking monkey "Bonsi" is spyware.
Regards. John Spooner.

Bobby, well stated. I could not agree more with your comments. I really feel for the mom and pop business's out there who suffer the most from this crap.
