I am thinking of junking that board and getting a "real" board with rotary pots... I hate sliders! I have 2 ITC playback units somewheres... I like the BE better. It's the mono version, though it looks like the guts of it are the same as the stereo version...just missing the right-channel record amp, repro amp, and stereo head stack. Phil: I guess I'm not the only one crazy enough to prefer rotary pots to sliders. I've never done any real radio work, but I was under the impression that most broadcast consoles used rotary controls. We have twister boards in the KBRC control and production rooms. Both of them are Autograms which were manufactured in Plano, Texas. The KAPS control room and production room are sliders. My Audio Technica ATC1220 I have had for at least 10 years at home is a slider, and it performs well. My other board (a Ramsy WH-212) is also a slider. That is my kick-around board I use in political gigs sponsored by the radio station. I have had issues with the slider pots in that board. The thing I don't like about the sliders is that the pots are very suseptable to getting noisey due dirt getting into them in dusty enviroments. Although this does happen, I came across a contact cleaner that is quite effective (and expensive) that corrects the problem. I squirted that stuff into the noisey sliders, and it corrected the problem. Josh, I'll bring a can of that stuff with me during the Holiday Season. Supposedly, it is supposed to do wonders with the twisters, too. (But I never needed to try it). One thing I like about the sliders....they are much easier to use if something has to be potted up quickly in event of a mis-cue or something of that nature. Josh, if you could ever get that Autogram I gave you working, it would be a much nicer board than that old Harris. I would think you could get the two VU meters from Mouser that will work. They look like a nominal size meter. The nice thing about the Autograms are the remote starts... I have an old AMPRO 6-pot twister. A real POS!!! It's about 12 y/o and has worked great. 12 line/mic A/B channels, Penny & Giles sliders, R/L meters for both pgm & aud buses, phone loops, digital timer, remote tape controls, etc. I got it from a holy roller station that was upgrading. I only use holy water to clean it. Paul, that Ampro has those cool Mae West bakelite knobs (as William calls them) >>> Phil  |  IP: Logged Daryl C. W. Anybody who does use them is clearly insane. I usually clean sliders with alcohol when I disassemble the board for cleaning. Of course boards should be covered when not in use to keep out the dust, but that's not possible when they're in 24hr use.
