Jesse,

There is a software upgrade available from Philips for the DVD985 that will give you 2 additional speeds, (2 1/2 & 3 1/2 hour). If you call the support number printed in the owners manual, they will send you a CD-ROM for free. You just place it in the machine, and it updates the internal software.
